ABOUT BOB Nogueira
I generate followership by activating confidence. Throughout my career I’ve worked for some of the most influential organizations in the world as a leader of operations, human resources, communications, and training. At University of Denver, I teach graduate students in the Communication Management Program and Strategic Human Resources Program. With non-profit organizations, I coach and consult with staff and boards of directors to build leadership talent and deepen bench strength.
My style embraces curiosity and discovery to engage individuals and teams. I love working to maximize what already exists and navigate toward what’s next. Helping others realize sustainable results is what I do.
The first coaching I remember was from my family.
At the time, it sure didn’t feel like coaching.
As a kid, I spent lots of time watching my family operate Nogueira’s Bar & Restaurant in Brooklyn. As coaches, my immigrant great-grandparents and grandparents let me discover what was happening in the moment, guiding me to awareness of the impact of actions and decisions.
As educators and community leaders, my Mom and Dad taught me the art of asking questions and shared with me the gift of listening deeply. As coaches, my parents let me stop to ask for directions, offered navigational support, and stuck with me.
What these great coaches didn’t try to do was be the expert on being me, try to tell me where to belong, or tell me what to do. These great coaches adjusted their approach based on the turn I took next and helped me navigate through territory for which there wasn’t a map. My family modeled for me great coaching.
Great coaching asks questions you never thought about before. Great coaching lets you discover the awesomely authentic you- the you that you know is there. Great coaching creates space for you to build awareness of where you want to belong and what you want to do- by navigating through actions and decisions.
